It's been a great season for riders associated with my Academy. Andy Britian (Jnr) missed winning the Championship by a few points due to bike problems but always kept a smile on his face. Bradley 'Beefburger' Burgen started the season as favourite but lost interest as the year went on, this was out of sheer frustration for the need for speed. Watch out when he gets it because he can ride. In the 90 modified it turned out to be a family affair with cousins Lee and Andy Lawton fighting it out right down to the last race, with Andy taking the win and the Championship. Andy's always been fast and fearless but Lee is smooth and calculated which makes for excellent racing. Just behind were Lewis Fletcher and Ryan Turner. These two are of similiar styles, they won't give in and they'll try their hearts out. With faster bikes we'll see their true ability. Watch out for these 4 riders in whichever class they choose to ride in. In the Standard Blaster Class compeition was fierce but I was more than pleased with the outcome of the Championship. A lot of people thought Emma Mackin was too small and not strong enough to win - how wrong they were. I knew she had the determination and dedication to be up there with the leaders. Her sheer will to win is something else. Emma battled all year, 'wheel to wheel' with Josh 'Saschwatch Big Foot' Barret and James (Jerry) Helliwell. Josh had the disadvantage being a big lad riding against riders half his size and weight. Josh said goodbye to the Blaster class with an overall win in the final round. Jerry Heliwell had a fantastic season stamping his presence at the front of the pack in his first full season of racing. Tom Fletcher just missed 4th due to a nightmare final round where he had no luck at all. But he's shown what he's capable of and now that he's starting to believe in himself will be one to watch. Joe Nutter and Toni-Marie Dickinson's final positions didn't do them justice because they missed a few rounds. They have the speed and ability and could well be contenders next year. In the modified Blaster Class I train 3 riders all with very different styles. Chris Allen is a very good rider when he's in the mood. Fast and a good jumper he's not frightened to mix it up but he needs to race more technical tracks to develop his potential. Ben Roberts is fearless - he rides with so much determination. He's very exciting to watch and he keeps mine and his Dad's hearts pumping. Stefan Murphy is Mr Cool & Calculated, so smooth that he makes racing look easy. Always in control with a natural ability for applying pressure to the opposition and forcing them into mistakes but Wayne Tyson may keep him on his toes next year. A few other riders didn't finish high in the Championship mainly due to missing some races. Lewis Shaw is a real good kid with an old head on those young shoulders. Watch his results next year when he rides in all rounds. Lewis is the son of ex World Armchair Quad Racing Champion, Richard 'Gunner' Shaw - you'd be well impressed with some of his reminisences!
