Successful 2007 Season For Mercuria GYTR Team YamahaAs the 2007 racing season draws to a close, team manager Richard Cole and the hardworking crew at Mercuria GYTR Team Yamaha Racing can look back at 2007 with a sense of pride and satisfaction at the achievements and progress that has been made throughout the year, riders Joe Maessen, Leon Beda, Dave Baldwin and James Hellewell having had a fantastic year over seven hectic months of racing at Nationaland International Quad MX and Endurance events.
Joe Maessen In his second year in the team, the multi Dutch and German champion has had a fantastic year in the CCM British MMX Quad Championship, taking an early lead in the series and riding consistently throughout the year to remain in contention for the title before the series came to an untimely premature end at Pontrillas, Joe nevertheless finishing a fantastic 3rd in the series and proving that he is a future champion in the making. International competition has also brought success for the young Dutch rider in 2007, Joe regularly finishing in the top four at the rounds of the UEM EMX European Cup that he was able to compete in. Date clashes with the British Championship prevented Joe from attending several rounds of the German Championship, but despite this Joe finished avery credible 5th after winning every race meeting that he was able to attend. Joe also joined Leon Beda and Maximillian Freund to take part in the 12-hour Pont De Vaux endurance race, setting third fastest time in practice and winning the last heat on Sunday despite a difficult weekend.
Leon Beda In
only his first year in the team, the affable young Scot quickly settled in and
had a fantastic 2007 season both Nationally and Internationally. Leons hard work rewarded with 9th place overall and the runner up slot in the Under-21class, with only unavoidable and unforeseeable mechanical problems in three of the fourteen scheduled motos preventing a higher placed finish. Competing in three of the five rounds that made up the UEM EMX European Cup, Leon showed amazing speed and composure beyond his young years to secure regular top five finishes, Leon finishing 10th in the series despite missing two meetings. The inaugural Quad Inter Nations MX competition held at the end of October saw Leon chosen to represent his country against teams of competitors from England, Ireland, Wales and Belgium, Leon putting in yet another gutsy performance to help his team to 2nd place honours.
James Hellewell A relative newcomer to the sportand the youngest member of the team, James has shown skills and maturity beyond his years to put in a superb performance this year, the sixteen year old finishing a fantastic 2nd place in the 250 class of the IOPD BritishChampionship after taking an impressive clean sweep and six wins from six races at the final round at Armthorpe. Jamesssuccess has not been limited to the national quad racing scene, Joe competing in various International competitions throughout 2007, the highlight of the year being when he won the Under-18 class at the spectacular 12 hour Pont De Vaux endurance race with Joe Nutter and Emma McQuaid. The UEM EMX European Cup has also provided James with a more challenging racing environment, James posting respectable top fifteen finishes while taking part in the last two rounds of the series on an unfamiliar 450 machine.
David Baldwin Flying the Mercuria GYTR Team Yamaha flag on the Quad Endurance racing scene, David has adapted well to the longer and more physically demanding offroad discipline. Regular top five finishes in the QRA British Endurance Championship has resulted in David finishing a very respectable 5th overall, and an absolutely outstanding display at the 25th Anniversary Weston International Beach Race saw David take the Mercuria GYTR Yamaha YFZ450 to a fantastic 5th place among an entry of nearly 500 riders.

In only their second year of competition this has been a fantastic year for the MercuriaGYTR Team Yamaha Team, Joe Maessen and Leon Beda recording top ten finishes inthe British Championship and promising results at International level, James Hellewellssuccess at youth level both in Domestic and International competition giving a glimpse of what is in store in the very near future and the vastly experienced David Baldwin successfully making the transition to Enduro racing. There are many factors, which havecontributed to the success and achievements of the team throughout 2007, the skill and determination of the riders, the guidance and machine preparation of team manager Richard Cole and the hard work and enthusiasm of the rest of the crew behind the scenes cannot go unmentioned. But the most significant factor in helping to achieve these fantastic results has been the amazing products and support, which has been provided by the teams various sponsors throughout the season. The overall package that Richard and the team have had has been extremely competitive and reliable and is a testament to the quality of the sponsors products, which they have been using.
